About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Sustainability Associate to join our Facilities Management team supporting a high-profile portfolio of buildings for a large financial institution in Washington, DC. The Sustainability Associate will play a key role in supporting the Sustainability Manager with the development, coordination, and implementation of sustainability strategies, initiatives, and programs across the assigned buildings.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, data analytics, energy and waste reduction, sustainable building operations, and stakeholder engagement within a high-performance team focused on operational excellence and innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Program Development & Execution:
  • Assist in researching, developing, and executing sustainability programs and initiatives in line with client and company sustainability goals.
  • Coordinate with vendors, internal teams, and stakeholders to support green cleaning, waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation, and landscaping initiatives.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting:
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental performance data (e.g., energy, water, waste, emissions).
  • Support monthly and quarterly reporting on sustainability KPIs and performance benchmarks.
  • Maintain sustainability dashboards, track progress to targets, and contribute to presentations and client reports.
  • Policy & Compliance Support:
  • Assist in the review and implementation of sustainability policies and procedures across the assigned portfolio.
  • Help ensure operations remain compliant with applicable environmental laws, certifications, and industry standards (e.g., LEED, ENERGY STAR, ISO 14001).
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
  • Support sustainability engagement campaigns for employees, tenants, and building staff.

This is a full-time position. $33.50 per hour. Hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

 

You Should Have

  • Ideal candidate will have knowledge of environmental certifications and industry standards including LEED, Energy Star and ISO 14001.
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking, a strong background in project management preferred, particularly with planning methods and coordinating and leading programs
  • Must have the ability to collaborate, as they will be responsible for coordinating efforts among internal and external departments
